Video Player Templates

Templates control the player’s visual style, visible controls, and title overlay behavior. Videos assigned to a template use that template’s published version.

This page helps you:

  • Create and edit reusable hosted video player styles

  • Apply a template to one video or multiple videos

  • Manage published template versions

  • Understand when hosted embeds reflect styling updates

Create a Template

  1. Go to Video → Templates.

  2. Click New template.

  3. Enter a template name.

  4. Optionally enter a description.

  5. Configure the Template styling panel.

  6. Review the Live Preview.

  7. Click Create template.

Freshpaint creates version v1 and publishes it automatically.

Customize Template Styling

Templates support these styling options:

  • Play button style: Filled, Outline, or Minimal

  • Play button shape: Circle, Rounded, or Pill

  • Play button color: preset or custom color

  • Show title on player: show or hide the video title overlay

  • Title placement: Top or Bottom

  • Control bar color: preset or custom color

  • Progress bar color: preset or custom color

  • Border radius: 0 to 32 pixels

  • Visible controls: volume, captions, picture in picture, and fullscreen

Save and Publish Changes

Template styling uses published versions.

When you save styling changes to an existing template, Freshpaint creates and publishes the next version automatically. All videos assigned to that template use the newly published version.

Metadata-only edits, such as name or description changes, update the template without creating a new styling version.

Manage Versions

Open a template and use the Versions section to manage saved styles.

  • Load into editor loads an older version for editing without saving or publishing it.

  • Publish this version makes an older version active for all videos assigned to the template.

Publishing a version affects every hosted video using that template.

Apply a Template to One Video

  1. Go to Videos.

  2. Open a hosted video.

  3. In the Preview card, click Apply template or Change template.

  4. Select a template in the Apply player template modal.

  5. Click Apply template.

Apply a Template to Multiple Videos

  1. Go to Videos.

  2. Select videos with the checkboxes.

  3. Click Apply template in the selection bar.

  4. Choose a template.

  5. Confirm the selection.

Freshpaint applies the template to the selected videos. Hosted embeds can take a few minutes to show the updated styling.

Best Practices

Use templates for shared brand styles, campaign styles, or page-specific player treatments.

Preview styling before saving because saving style changes publishes a new version for all assigned videos.

Allow a few minutes after publishing or bulk applying templates before checking hosted embeds.
