# Exclude Lead Form Submitters from Lookalike Campaigns

Freshpaint enables you to combine Imported Audiences and Segments to refine campaigns and avoid wasted spend. In this scenario, you’ll target a lookalike audience while excluding users who already submitted a lead form. This helps you:

* Avoid redundant outreach
* Reduce patient fatigue
* Stay compliant with HIPAA and platform policies

#### 1. Prepare your lookalike source (Imported Audience)

Before excluding users, create a privacy‑safe audience to seed your lookalike campaign.

* Go to Audiences → Imported Audiences.
* Click Import audience and upload your CSV (single column labeled “email”).
* Choose your Destination(s).
* Name your audience and add an internal description (stays inside Freshpaint).
  * Review the Ad Platform Alias (privacy‑safe; no health context).
* Click Create Audience.

✅ Sync starts right away. Open the Audience details page to monitor status and size.

#### 2. Build a Segment for lead form submitters

Create a real‑time audience for people who already submitted a lead form.

* Go to Audiences → Segments.
* Click Create Segment.
* Choose your Destination(s).
* Add a condition for the event (for example): Submitted Lead Form
  * Optional: add a time window (e.g., within the last 180 days) to focus on recent submitters
* Name your audience and add an internal description.
  * Review the Ad Platform Alias (privacy‑safe; no health context).
* Click Create Audience.

✅ This audience updates automatically as new users complete the form.

#### 3. Build a Lookalike Audience in your ad platform

Use your Imported Audience from step 1 as the lookalike source.

* In your ad platform’s audience manager, choose Create → Lookalike Audience.
* Select the Freshpaint source audience (by its alias).
* Choose your region and lookalike size (e.g., 1%–10%).
* Click Create/Save.

💡 Platforms may take 24–48 hours to process new or updated audiences.

#### 4. Exclude submitters in your ad platform

Apply the exclusion at the campaign or ad set level.

* Include: your Lookalike Audience (from step 3).
* Exclude: your “Lead Form Submitters” audience (from step 2).

✅ Your campaign will now target new users similar to your source audience, while filtering out those who already converted.

#### Reminder: Look for anonymized names in your ad platforms

* Freshpaint sends an anonymized, platform‑safe alias for every audience. This is the name you’ll select downstream.
* Your internal Freshpaint name will not appear in the ad platform. Always search/select the alias you reviewed during creation.
* You can view the alias anytime on the Audience details page.

#### Best practices & reminders

* Maintain HIPAA compliance: Never include health context in aliases. Keep clinical terms in internal names only.
* Plan for processing delays: Lookalike and synced audiences may take 24–48 hours to become usable.
* Monitor audience overlap: Combined targeting reduces size; aim for 1,000+ matched users for stability.
* Refresh data regularly: Update imported lists monthly and revisit segment criteria quarterly based on performance.

#### What’s next?

* Importing Audiences → Upload patient/member lists securely.
* Segments → Build real‑time behavioral audiences.
* Protecting Health Context → Keep campaigns HIPAA‑safe.
* Audience Integrations → Set up your ad platforms and destinations.
