Audience Integrations

Freshpaint Audiences allows you to sync your segmented or imported audiences to ad platforms and destinations — all while enabling you to maintain compliance with privacy regulations like HIPAA.

This page explains how integrations work, how to set them up, and what’s required to sync audience data.

What is Audience Targeting?

Audience Targeting is a way of using your first-party customer data to create new user groups based on characteristics you define. You can then use these groups (and their known characteristics) to generate Retargeting, Lookalike, or Exclusion lists in the connected Ad platform.

List of Supported Ad Platforms

Freshpaint currently supports the following Audience Targeting integrations:

Required Identifiers

Audience integrations require identifiers to match individuals from your Freshpaint Audience within the Ad Platform. You must have the Admin or Data Manager role within your Freshpaint account to allowlist these identifiers.

Identifier
Use case
Supported by

Email

Required by most Ad Platforms. Provided when importing or audiences, or matched when using Identity Matching.

Google Ads, Meta, Viant, StackAdapt

Phone Number (coming soon)

Optional for some ad platforms. Only provided by you when importing an audience.

Google Ads, Meta

IP address (coming soon)

Accepted by a few Ad Platforms. Collected by freshpaint SDK and is the most readily available for all configured events.

Viant, StackAdapt

When configuring an integration, you will need to click ‘accept’, then click ‘save’ to agree to send the appropriate identifier to the Ad Platform when sending an Audiences.

Automatic Identity Matching

Freshpaint allows you to turn anonymous traffic into usable audience segments through identity resolution. This is powered by a licensed third-party identity graph that probabilistically matches anonymous identifiers (like device IDs or IPs) to known identifiers (like email addresses or phone numbers). Your data is never added to the identity graph.

How it Works

  • Matching is probabilistic, not deterministic — expect a 30–40% match rate. Meaning that we match at a household level where one household might have many associated emails.

  • No PHI is sent outside your system. All resolution happens within Freshpaint.

Enable identity matching

By default identity matching is off, you will need to enable Identity Matching to use segmentation with many integrations (e.g., Google Ads, Meta). You must have the Admin or Data Manager role within your Freshpaint account to allowlist these identifiers.

How to Adjust Match Rate

We match number of households and recency of emails associated with that household.

Adjust the match rate accuracy threshold to balance between:

  • Higher Accuracy (Lower Match Rate):

Focused, relevant matches but smaller audiences. Fewer households and smaller lookback period.

  • Lower Accuracy (Higher Match Rate):

Broader reach but may include less relevant matches. More households and larger lookback period.

You can also reset to the recommended default.
