How Freshpaint Analytics calculates each key metric.
How do we calculate each key metric?
The following list describes how we calculate each of the key metrics we display in our analytics feature. Metrics are always calculated only for the events that occurred during the currently selected time period. Metrics are always specific to the current Freshpaint environment.
Bounce Rate
We compute the bounce rate as the percentage of unique sessions that only visited in single page during the selected time period where the session duration was 10 seconds or less. Lower is better.
See also: Sessions, Session Duration
Browser
We calculate the browser ($browser
) associated with each page view belonging to a given session.

Channel
We determine the channel the traffic originated from (eg. Paid Search, Organic Social, Email, etc.) by analyzing the initial referring domain ($initial_referring_domain
) for each page view belonging to a given session.

Device Type
We infer the device type from the browser ($browser
) associated with each page view belonging to a given session.

Operating System (OS)
We calculate the operating system ($os
) associated with each page view belonging to a given session.

Referring Domain
We calculate the referring domain ($initial_referring_domain
) for each page view belonging to a given session.

Session Duration
We compute the session duration as the average amount of time each unique session lasted during the selected time period. Higher is better.

Sessions (Unique Sessions)
We compute the number of sessions as the number of unique Freshpaint session IDs ($session_id
) seen in the queried events. Higher is better.
Top Events
We count the number of times each Freshpaint event has occurred. Events counted include both Autotrack and Precision events. Higher is generally better, though your precision events may require more nuanced interpretation.
UTM Parameters
We count the occurrence of a given UTM parameter (eg. campaign, content, medium, source, term) by counting the number of times that parameter was set (for example, initial_utm_campaign
) on the very first page view for a given session.

Views (Page Views)
We compute the number of page views as the number of times a given page was viewed according to Freshpaint Autotrack page view data. Higher is better.
Visitors (Unique Visitors)
We compute the number of visitors as the number of unique Freshpaint device IDs ($device_id
) seen in the queried events. Higher is better.
